This hearty, low growing tree has adapted to the poor soil conditions of coastal regions. Its twisted, swirling trunk, fat at the base, tapering towards the top, opens to a crown of densely packed, deep-green leaves. The charcoal colored bark is streaked with silver patterns, reminiscent of a barber pole. The tree bears mustard yellow fruit the size of a small fig. Though horribly sour without proper preparation, the fruits turn sweet after baking or boiling. They are prized both as an excellent source of nutrition and vitamins, but especially for their resilient skin, which allows them to hold for many months, ideal for extended quests. Despite their hardiness, the trees are difficult to cultivate in orchards, thriving in some unique combination of soil conditions that have proven difficult to replicate en masse. The pekoberry tree is the official tree of the city of Xin.
