The largest and most prosperous settlement in the southern territories, Arania became the de facto capital of the region after the fall of the Melandrach Empire. Situated at a natural crossroads: Lake Arania, the intersection of five rivers, the city is both safe haven for travelers and center of trade for the region. Originally a mid-sized human settlement, the city’s population exploded following the collapse of the Melandrach Empire, as refugees of many different species flocked to the relative safety of the city. Though the city was besieged on several occasions, Arania never fell, and prospered following the great conflict. Over time even elves, despite their disdain for human architecture, have made their home in the city. Architecturally and technologically resembling a Victorian age city of Earth, it’s one of the most technologically advanced on the world, with access to a wide range of resources, and of sufficient size to support diverse and specialized crafts and industries. The city boasts the largest and best trained militia in the territory, who defend the city, as well as rendering assistance to various outlying settlements. Naturally, priority is given to those with more valuable trade connections. All who bring trade and keep the peace are welcome. Provided they can afford the staggering cost of living, of course.
